at 6:17am. At the summit, I came up short of the FKT by less than a minute, which was a little frustrating after that hard of an effort.
So, I went back four days later, starting at 6:1am, with trekking poles (btw I highly recommend the Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ Poles). I ran just about everything and charged the final steep ridge to the summit. It’s not usually the case, but this was a flawless morning. I snagged the Ascent FKT (1h 31m 44s) and Roundtrip FKT (2h 27m 0s) …and got to work by 9am (although un-showered).
I do a lot of useless things but the most of which may be summiting peaks. Sure it’s immensely fulfilling, but it completely fails to provide any value to other people (which I consider an import measure of someone’s life). We have lived at the mouth of American Fork Canyon a couple times. On any drive home, Box Elder was there looming over Alpine, taunting me to plan some uselessly hard ascent.
I finally found a cool morning forecast and all the motivation.I slept, rallied to the trailhead, and took off
